pulse of life

by Roberto Lavidez

it is present
but invisible
inaudible
a somewhat
differently
clothed
imperialism
of global
modalities
a time
devoid of
emancipation
narratives
to perceive
all too clearly
the difference
between
freedom
and slavery
we have
become
the new
endangered
species
with all things
stratified
and stagnant
only the cast
of characters
is altered
to fit new
circumstances
enclosed by
the waters
and the
passage
of time
positioned
to receive
contradictory
messages
the dispensation
of rewards
and eternal
condemnation
all the
destruction
bloodshed
famines and
pestilences
endured
the slavery
of some
came to be
considered
necessary
to the
freedom
of others
quickening
the pulse
of life
the mixture
of kindness
and cruelty
so prevalent
throughout
temporalizing
and spatializing
regimes
that write
the maps of
world history
imposing itself
with predictable
and schematic
obviousness
a chronicle
of marvelous
reality
