prescription
to immortality
by Roberto Lavidez

somewhere
in this desert
of a world
sudden rage
broke
the last remaining
barriers of resistance
crouched low
in the shadows
trapped
in the nightmare
shackled
by despairs
it is not easy
to resist
the dreams
of humiliated people
troubled by
the record
of untruth
all the hypocrisies,
lies, subterfuge,
faithlessness,
purified under
the influence
of empty mountains
he who could
contain and survive
elements of pain
in the dark
embarking on
a wild journey
through the
landscape
of the soul
cleaning up
the air
to nourish
spiritual hunger
until one could find
the prescription
to his own
immortality
expecting nothing
changing nothing
leaving nothing
behind
standing alone
against
the floodtide
of revolution
breaking
the habit
of disappearing
and reappearing
like a mirage
or the balancing
of joy
and tragedy
the ludicrous
confessions
about what
actually happened
in real life
in a wild spate
of words
punctuated
with explosions
of obscenity
sallies of
good humor
interspersed with
mockery
and threats
destroying evidence
of the hand of fate
requiring no
mental effort
spotting
the mythmaker
at work
as one learned
to cheat
in order
to survive
