after all the havoc
by Roberto Lavidez

men
are dogs
for one
another
affirming
one’s
solidarity
with
the world
at its
worst
after all
the havoc
has been
wreaked
life is
grown
too cheap
set at the
price of
words
the inner
uncertainties
the inner
darkness
into which
man
has fallen
the cold
abyss
poisoned
by solitude
and alienation
from star
to star
from death
to death
matching
the pounding
of blood
with the
violent
pulsation
of the sun
the perennial
moral
predicaments
of human
history
thinking
about
things
beyond the
intelligible
breeding
doubt
branching
upwards
toward
heaven
while
the root
is stuck
in the earth
rendering
hope
obsolete
that we can
perhaps gain
a better
understanding
of our enemy
and of ourselves
but we cannot
possibly fathom
life beyond
our present life
that there
does exist
such a thing
as truth
come into
being
in the course
of time
like finding
freedom
in any
meaningful
sense of
the world
like a ripple
on an
unfathomable
enigma
the ironic
contrast
and the
inexplicable
silence
hiding
in the
magnificent
folds of
eloquence
lurking
in the facts
of human
existence
of having
come upon
something
unmistakably
real
wandering
on this earth
restored
to the
despair
of innocence
with careless
contempt
for the
evanescence
of all things
