Ripening
By
Roberto Lavidez
all
political thought
is
turned upside down
Aristotle
to Machiavelli
Marx
to Weber are all
doomed
to impotence
multiple
amputations
cannot
be consoled
split
faces cannot be
assuaged
in misery
harsh
reality cannot
be
annulled in dreams
the
coziness of homes
are
broken into by
ironed
uniforms and
shined
boots clinging
to
ancient superstitions
and
obsolete ways
to
accelerate the ripening
of
the fruit sown in a
sermon
from the pulpit
vociferous
expression
of
history of violence
puppeteered
by muscles
behind
the throne
subjected
to many
perplexing
versions
manifestations
of
thwarted
ancestral
archetypes
and
dehumanizing
effects
of patriarchy
theories
play out
in
translucent curtains
drawn
over windows
of
a desecrated culture
postcolonial
agony
inflicted
on slaves
resigned
to suffering
accused
for demanding
slave
institutions to be
put
in place to properly
monitor
which torn limbs
went
with which hacked
body
buried in drenched
soil
devoid of decency
pegged
by centuries
of
deflowering
consciousness
as
for Aristotle
Machiavelli
Marx
and Weber
they
all fled to their
consecrated
graves
still
pleading for a
saner
society
to take root
