whose hope
by Roberto Lavidez
to construct
a life on
uncompromising
certitudes
preserving
a sense of
personal
integrity
in the face
of outside
aggression
the invincible
conviction
of solidarity
that knits
together
the loneliness
of innumerable
hearts
like riding
the waves
of perfect
harmony
in a sea
of chaos
to bind
together
all humanity
the dead
to the living
the living
to the unborn
preserving
mass graves
as constant
reminders
of what we
as humans
are capable of
we could be
drifting
through time
like men
without souls
feeling empty
as we
poured out
all troubles
and woes
into the stone
brought by
magic of
anthropology
kind of
wonderful
and horrifying
at once
are we
more moral
because we’ve
experienced
real evil
or do we
become
monsters
ourselves
in the process
of fighting
monsters
to inhabit
a realm
of pure myth
to take
self-debasing
pleasure
in poisoning
souls
to make
a nest
where a
monster
can be born
until we
become
polarized into
us and them
turning
thousands of
moments
into traps
and snares
that lined
the path
to eternal
torment
tiptoeing
through
the remainder
of time
what scenario
do we play
in our minds
as we write
our own fiction
does it offer
a critical way
of appraising
and grasping
the world
are we
smiling
with the
contentment
of having found
an answer to
a very tricky
question -
whose world?
