in the rubble
of the aftermath
by Roberto Lavidez

the world
appears
as an
enormous
wind-up toy
demolished
like
bad memory
of wretched
tunes
when reality
is more
sinister
than
nightmare
where
the past
is virtually
laid waste
in the rubble
of the aftermath
difficult times
demand
difficult
questions
when ultimates
are coming to
a moment
of decision
asking what
could be
won over
and what
could not
the reconcilables
and the
irreconcilables
contemplating
the vestiges
of so many
extinct worlds
man lights
a candle
in the dungeon
of immense hopes
all religious
and
inclined to
archaic
superstitions
taking a leap
into the
unknown
people take it
for granted
that humankind
is a house
of cards
full of
contradiction
and ready
to collapse
with the
wicked habit
of leaving
drowned men
to drift in
the water
overwhelmed
by absolute
stillness
that could
only be
the silence
of death
bouts of
anxiety
are as deep
as immersions
in a pit
or as harsh
as tenacious
land wind
that carries in it
the seeds of
madness
if the surge
and the
consequences
of catastrophe
were to be
sustained
one would
realize
how alone
he is
in the beautiful
impenetrable
most unrecognizable
common ground
that if phrased out
just right
might unravel
the knot
