A Stubborn Life

By Roberto Lavidez

language full
of ambiguities
reasoning out of
bewildering
metaphysics
while the rest
of the world
is mired in illiteracy
manipulation of
mass emotions
gnashing their teeth
over their misfortune
the object of maliciously
indulgent humor
living out lives
untouched by new ways
senselessly sacrificing
the inescapable
photograph of
a stubborn life
everything that
embodies
the allurement
of nature
is gained at the price
of abasement
replete with gentle
anesthetics that
soothe the pain
of enslaved hearts
turned into callow
participants in a
nation’s decline
built-in self destruct
mechanisms begin
to wriggle across
the planetary face
any intrusion
triggers a riot
packing prisons
and cemeteries
after breakdown
of all resistance
the uncorrupted few
must create little cells
of wisdom given the
righteous cause of men
planted in the woods
of wandering solitude
unraveling the
obscurities of liberty,
equality, fraternity
sacrificing the
stereotyped
appropriation
of everything
the inescapable beauty
of a pendulum swing
